Enjoying the Royal Adelaide Show
Spring has arrived, and with it comes the much-anticipated Royal Adelaide Show—a vibrant event filled with fun, family, and community spirit. For our LDS clients, the show offered a fantastic opportunity to create cherished memories, connect with loved ones, and enjoy a day of wholesome entertainment. With an array of rides, animals, delicious food, and lively entertainment, the show is a fantastic opportunity for our clients to enjoy a day of fun, connection, and adventure.
Fireworks and the arcade games were an absolute hit, and the carnival rides were thrill for those who love a bit of adrenaline! With accessible rides available, our clients were even able to enjoy the Ferris wheel’s stunning views over Adelaide. Named the ‘Crown Wheel’, The Royal Show included the accessible ride to the lineup this year, describing it as “…at 35 metres tall, its fully enclosed gondolas provide access for wheelchairs and those with additional needs.” – Amazing!
Tasty treats and showbags galore… No visit to the Royal Adelaide Show is complete without indulging in some delicious food and collecting showbags filled with goodies. With a variety of food on offer, our clients were spoilt for choice! And of course, purchasing a favourite showbag or two to take home as a memento of the day.
With memories to last a lifetime, The Royal Adelaide Show not only offered a day of joy and excitement but also strengthened the bonds between our clients and their support workers, and provided opportunities to make new friends. With clients going out with their housemates, friends, and meeting up with other clients in our community, it created great opportunities for friendship building. It’s days like these that highlight the importance of community inclusion, accessibility for all, and the joy that comes from shared experiences…
Naomi, of Glandore, visited the show this year with her Supported Independent Living housemates and loved clapping along and dancing to the live performances, and taking in all the lights, sounds and fun that the show had to offer.
Christina, of Unley, is an avid lover of animals -small and large- and had a wonderful time meeting all the farm animals at the show, such as the beautiful milk cows in the Farmyard Nursery. She’ll be excited about the new furry friends she made for some time yet!
Peter, of Glenelg, had a fantastic time meeting all the different stall holders in the Jubilee Pavilion. He even went on to do a weather broadcast – check it out here! We think he did an amazing job.
As each day of the short eight days of entertainment came to a close, our clients left the showgrounds with big smiles, full bellies, cherished memories, and no doubt sore feet and ready for a big sleep. We’re already looking forward to next year’s Royal Adelaide Show, where we’ll create even more unforgettable moments together.
